How to get Approved for Adoption

Adopting from the Animal Orphanage is simple, friendly, and stress-free. You must fill out an application and be approved to adopt. Here’s how it works:

1. Visit Us
Stop by the shelter during our adoption hours to meet the animals! You can also browse available pets right here on our website.

2. Get to Know Your Pet
Spend time with your potential new friend. Our staff will help answer any
questions and guide you to the perfect match.

3. Complete an Adoption Application
Fill out our adoption application in person. This helps us ensure a good fit for both you and the pet.

In the adoption application, we’ll ask that you have a licensed veterinarian clinic already established and are willing to see your animal once the adoption is complete.

Also, any animals that you already have at home must be up to date on their rabies and distemper vaccines, as well as neutered or spayed. This includes any recently deceased pets, and this policy exists to ensure a healthy home environment for you and your new pet.

The application also asks for proof of homeownership or landlord's permission. If you own your home, homeownership can be proven through a mortgage statement, tax bill or deed to the land. If you rent, we’ll ask you to provide the landlord's information for us to contact and ensure pets are allowed in the rental unit.

Please note that adoption applications may take up to one week to process.

4. Approval & Adoption Fee
Once approved, you’ll pay the adoption fee and schedule a time to bring your new pet home. Shelter staff are always happy to answer questions and help ensure a good fit. We want both you and our animals to be happy and healthy.

(Note: Approved Dog adoption applications will have a 7-day foster week to ensure the home is a good fit before finalizing any adoptions)

*Disclaimer: The Animal Orphanage reserves the right to deny an application if these steps aren't met and/or if the staff feels the home isn't the right fit for an animal*
